Your Privacy is Our Default

The Short Version

This policy covers the FunChat web application available at funchat.in. It applies to all users worldwide.

What We Collect

FunChat is designed to function without collecting personal data. Here is exactly what happens when you use the platform:

• Display name: You choose any username you like — it doesn't have to be your real name and we never store it beyond your active session.
• Chat messages: Messages are relayed in real time between users and are held temporarily in server memory. They are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not read, analyse or sell your messages.
• Images and GIFs: Media you share in chat is stored temporarily on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours.
• IP address: Your IP address may be stored temporarily for abuse prevention and ban enforcement only. It is never linked to your identity within FunChat, never used for tracking or advertising, and never shared with third parties.
• Session token: A temporary, randomly generated token is stored in your browser's localStorage to maintain your session across page refreshes. It contains no personal information and expires after 30 days.

That is the complete list. We collect nothing else.

What We Never Collect

• Your real name, email address or phone number
• Your IP address (not logged or stored)
• Your location or GPS data
• Device identifiers or browser fingerprints
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID, etc.)
• Browsing history or behaviour outside FunChat
• Payment information (all transactions are handled by third-party providers)

Cookies and Local Storage

FunChat does not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies of any kind.

We use browser localStorage solely to store your temporary session token and UI preferences (such as your selected chat mode). This data never leaves your device and is never sent to third parties.

No cookie consent banner is required because we don't set any tracking cookies — ever.

Third-Party Services

FunChat uses a small number of third-party services to deliver the product. Here is what each one does and what, if anything, they may collect:

• Google Fonts: Used to load the DM Sans and DM Mono typefaces. Google may log font request metadata (IP address, browser). You can review Google's privacy policy at google.com/fonts/privacy.
• Giphy: Used to power the GIF search feature. If you search for or send a GIF, your search query is sent to Giphy's API. Giphy's privacy policy applies to that interaction.
• QR Server (api.qrserver.com): Used to generate UPI QR codes for optional Premium badge purchases. No personal data is transmitted.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel or any other behavioural analytics tool.

How Long We Keep Data

• Chat messages: Auto-deleted within 24 hours of being sent.
• Uploaded images and media: Auto-deleted within 24 hours of upload.
• Session tokens: Expire and are discarded after 7 days of inactivity.
• Server logs: Our hosting provider may retain standard web server access logs for up to 7 days for security and abuse prevention. These logs may contain IP addresses but are not linked to user identities within FunChat.

Child Safety and CSAM Reporting

FunChat has a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content that exploits or endangers minors. Our platform is intended for users aged 18 and over.

Any CSAM detected on the platform is immediately reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) via their CyberTipline, and to relevant law enforcement authorities. Accounts associated with such content are permanently banned.

AI Moderation

FunChat uses automated AI moderation to detect and remove abusive, harmful or rule-violating content in real time. Messages are scanned as they pass through the server. This scanning is automated — no human moderators read your conversations.

Users who repeatedly violate the rules are banned based on their session token. Because we don't collect IP addresses or personal data, bans are tied to the session only.

Your Rights

Because we collect no personal data linked to your identity, most traditional data rights (access, correction, portability) do not apply in practice — there is simply nothing to access or correct.

However, if you have any privacy concern or believe data about you is being held incorrectly, you are welcome to contact us and we will investigate promptly.

• You can clear your session at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage.
• All your chat history disappears automatically within 24 hours.
• You can stop using FunChat at any time — no account deletion process needed.

Security

FunChat serves all content over HTTPS. Real-time chat uses encrypted WebSocket connections. We take reasonable technical measures to protect the platform against unauthorised access.

Because we don't store personal data, a data breach at FunChat would not expose your identity, email address, password or payment information.

Changes to This Policy

If we make any material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of FunChat after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
